Three workshops scheduled for August and September
The Versatile Bromeliad | Tillandsia Sculpture | Container Water Gardening

Sharon Petersen, world renown expert on bromeliads and owner of Sharon’s Plants in Waimanalo, will be conducting a workshop on Bromeliads on August 24th and another on Tillandsia Sculptures on September 7th. Also scheduled as part of the workshop series is a session on Container Water Gardening on September 21, with Robin Petersen, co-owner of the nursery.

WORKSHOP 1
The Versatile Bromelaid
with Sharon Petersen

Collector, grower, and bromeliad enthusiast Sharon Petersen will be conducting this workshop in her bromeliad greenhouses at Sharon’s Plants in Waimanalo. Learn about the care & handling of bromeliads; potting techniques, using bromeliads in landscape design, and more. A great way to learn just how versatile bromeliads can be.

WORKSHOP 2
Tillandsia Sculpture
with Sharon Petersen

Explore the world of this magical epiphyte working with one of Sharon’s favorite plant mediums. Learn how to care for and cultivate ‘air plants’ while viewing Sharon’s personal collection. Hands on learning how to create your own tillansia sculpture on lava rock or manzanita wood, Horticulture veterans and green thumb amateurs alike will enjoy this interactive make and take class.

Container Water Gardening | Water as a Design Feature
with Robin Petersen and special guest

Add the sound and sparkle of water, the lushness of water plants, and another ecosystem to your garden! This workshop is an opportunity to learn how to design and set up a container water garden. Learn about the care of various water and bogs plants; potting techniques and design in our newly renovated water garden section.

About Sharon Petersen
Sharon Petersen is a world renown expert on bromeliads. She started her passion of cultivating and hybridizing Bromeliads over twenty years ago, and is acclaimed as a top hybridizer of Bromeliad Neoregelia. She has received numerous awards from Bromeliad Society International and is currently working with the Hawaii Bromeliad Society in hosting their first international conference in Hawaii. Sharon has been active in Hawaii agriculture since 1977 when she first opened Sharon’s Plants.

About Robin Petersen
Robin has been working side by side with her mother, Sharon, since 1977 when Sharon’s Plants was established. Robin works with industry experts and travels to keep up on the latest in industry techniques and design and is responsible for planting, cultivating and propagating the 20 acre nursery in Waimanalo.

The Petersens offer some of the most beautiful, hardy and healthy plants on the Island at Sharon’s Plants.
