Shelby Bottoms Nature Center provides free nature education programs for the public in a beautiful 935 acre urban natural area and greenway park.
Shelby Bottoms Nature Center(SBNC) is an Earthcraft Certified, sustainably constructed nature center open to the public for field trips, free public programs and walk-in visitation. Located in a 935 acre urban natural area,the Shelby Bottoms Greenway & Nature Park, SBNC naturalists use the Park as an outdoor laboratory to introduce visitors to interesting nature topics, share knowledge of the Park's natural and cultural history, and have a fun experience in the outdoors. The Nature Center campus includes a rain garden, a teaching garden, a short trail, porches for viewing the Cumberland River, bike racks, Nashville GreenBikes station, access to the Park's 5 miles of both paved and primitive trails, and a Natural Play area for children.
Shelby Bottoms Nature Center provides:
-Free curriculum based field trips for grades PreK-12
-Free programs for the public on plants, animals, environment, organic/local foods, astronomy, geology, GPS use/geocaching, campfires, art/photography exhibits, and much more
-A resource library to learn more about the natural environment, including a large collection of field guides to help identify plants, animals, rocks or more that visitors may find in the park (all plants, animals and historic/cultural artifacts are protected and cannot be collected without a permit from the nature center).
-A great place to come in before a hike to pick up a trail map, talk to a naturalist and use the facilities before heading out; or a great place to rest, cool off and get a drink of water after a hike or run.
