Come stroll with us through lives, memories and events unique to Shelby County. The Shelby County Museum is located in the Center of Shelby County, deep in the rolling hills of East Texas' pineywoods.

The Museum Building, circa 1900 Weaver-Oates house, was built by E. H. Barron. You'll find yourself taking an educational journey through American Indian life, early Spanish and European explorations and the episodes thereafter that forever shaped the landscape of Texas and Shelby County.

The Genealogy Research Library and Archives are also housed in the newly renovated museum building. The library and archives offer a wide selection of research materials to aid in your endeavors. On hand are trained volunteers who can offer a wealth of knowledge and backgrounds that can assist in your search.

History
The Society has been serving the county since 1962. The Society provides for an area to exhibit historically significant items to Shelby Co. and the people that live here, past and present. Membership is presently 500members. The Society tries to target East Texas rural communities by providing cultural and educational events as well as preservation of existing history.
