The Borough of Shrewsbury is nestled in the north east section of Monmouth County. Shrewsbury consists of approximately 2.3 square miles and is primarily a residential community. Shrewsbury was settled in 1662 as one of the Two Towns of the Navesink. It’s Four Corners, consisting of the intersection of Broad Street and Sycamore Avenue is of significant historical importance within Monmouth County. On May 11, 1926 residents voted in favor to separate from Shrewsbury Township, who at one time covered a majority of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. The first Council meeting was held on July 19, 1926 in the parish hall of Christ Church since there was no Borough Hall at the time.
