The Smithville CommUNITY Coalition was organized in summer of 2011. It is currently a registered NC non-profit seeking 501 (c) 3 IRS recognition- which is expected in 2013. It is locally led by residents. The coalition is made up of residents, area citizens, non-profits and faith-based communities, and the Town of Cornelius. The SCC is aimed at improving Smithville, the East Catawba Avenue Corridor, and Cornelius. The SCC future state vision includes 4 components: Community (which includes a community center serving all of Cornelius), Job Training and Economic Development, and various Programs (for children, youth, families, seniors and ex-offenders), and Housing. The Town of Cornelius is very supportive of the SCC vision. Please join us in your involvement and support. For more information contact Lisa Mayhew-Jones at nmayhew0@email.cpcc.edu or 704-907-0688.
