We need YOU to help our teachers inspire greatness!
The Smithville Education Foundation (SEF) formerly the Association of Citizens for Education (ACE) formed in March of 2011. We are a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization.
SEF formed in reaction to statewide budget cuts in public education. Since our formation we have funded thousands of dollars in grants to SISD teachers. The mission of SEF is to help bridge the gap between our community and our schools to help ensure that every SISD student has the best education experience possible.
SEF funds two major programs- Innovative Teaching grants to SISD teachers and Brown Primary Enrichment days.
Innovative teaching grants are awarded once a year to help teachers bring projects into their classrooms that would not otherwise be funded. This includes project supplies, equipment, software and appropriate trips. Each grants is evaluated on an individual basis. All grant applications are approved by campus principals and SISD administration to ensure it is in line with SISD district goals.
SEF partners with LPAA (Lost Pines Artisan Alliance), Brown Primary, and Playhouse Smithville to bring the fine arts to students at Brown Primary school. SEF provides funding for the supplies and artist, Brown Primary arranges the schedule to ensure all students k-2nd can participate, and LPAA and Playhouse Smithville coordinate the session lessons. Each Enrichment Session is done over one and a half days once every six weeks. The program started with two sessions focused on the fine arts. Since the program started we have expanded to six sessions a year and incorporated theater and musical theater.
The Smithville Education Foundation helps fill in the gaps in programing and supplies that would not otherwise be met by the district. SEF only funds projects that would not otherwise be funded.
