Sonoma State Equestrian Team

The SSU Equestrian team competes in Zone 8, Region 1 of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) in both disciplines of English and Western.

The Sonoma State Equestrian Team is an intercollegiate riding team that was established in the Spring of 2008. Our team was founded to help SSU students obtain the ability of having a riding career through college. This group of riders, of all levels and abilities, is here to represent SSU at both a regional and national level through the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA).

We currently offer three different disciplines of riding, including: hunt-seat, western, and eventing. Our hunt-seat and western teams both compete through the IHSA, which involves catch-riding to promote an equal "playing field" of all riders while competing. You do not need your own horse in order to be on either of these teams and do not need any riding ability at all. For eventing, you do need your own horse and access to a trainer in order to compete.
