History of St. Anne's Mission Church

1857 - St. Anne's Mission Church was founded by Fr. Eugene Casmir Chirouse, OMI, who also founded a school for boys.

1868 - A school for girls was founded with the Sisters of Charity Providence.

1878 - Fr. Chirouse transferred to British Columbia. Rev. John Baptiste Boulet was assigned to St. Anne's Mission.

1891 - Fr. Chirouse returns to preside at the Requiem Mass for Chief Sealth.

1902 - On March 20, 1902, the original church was destroyed by a fire. Student Emil Williams rescues the Madonna statue that was brought from France by Fr. Chirouse.

1904 - The present St. Anne's Church is built. The original bell and Madonna statue are installed in the new church.

1957 - A special Mass is held at 11 a.m. on December 15, 1957 to commemorate the centennial of the arrival of Fr. Chirouse.

1976 - St. Anne's Mission Church is added to the National Register of Historic Places.

2013 - July 1, 2013, Fr. Emmanuel Iweh becomes the first resident priest assigned to St. Anne's Catholic Church to live and work in the Tulalip community since Fr. Chirouse's departure in 1878.
