Providing spiritual guidance and social support to the Syriac Orthodox community in the Chicago area and surrounding counties since 1969. www.syriacorthodox.info
Our priest is Father Samer Youhanoun.
St. John the Baptist Syriac Orthodox Church of Illinois was founded in 1969 by His Eminence the Late Mar Athanasius Yeshue Samuel. During this period of time, a few families were able to establish the church by meeting and holding Sunday services in their residences until the good Lord made available a small modest church located at 3748 North Newland Avenue in Chicago. Currently, this church building is occupied by our sister church of St.George Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church of Malankara.
Over the years the congregation outgrew the Newland Avenue site and in 1995 was blessed with the purchase of the present church located at 250 South Villa Avenue - Villa Park, Illinois. On November 1, 1995 Holy Services officially commenced at the Villa Park address. The church is situated on a one and half acre of land with a good size parking lot. In 2001, a Parish House was built on the vacant lot adjacent to the church. The church and church hall underwent extensive remodeling to accommodate our traditions and needs of the parishioners. Many thanks to the generosity of our parishioners and sister churches for making this possible. In 2009, the Church hall was remodeled again.
