The history of St. Paul A.M.E. Church is a fascinating and inspiring as the history of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, which dates back to 1787. The church started in 1867 with a small band of Christian believers armed with unrelenting faith in God. These saintly souls, who were once a part of Cumberland A. M. E. Church's congregation, saw the need for a place of worship in the southern section of the Sampit Community. A tract of land was purchased and the St.Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in the Sampit Section Of Georgetown was built. This church was accepted by the South Carolina Annual Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
