Stratford Police Explorers - Post 55 - (203) 385-5781

Explorer Post 55 is for youths between the ages of 14-20 who are interested in building a unique and dynamic relationship with the community.

Our purpose is to provide experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Exploring is based along with direct and personal contact with members of the Stratford Police Department. The result is a program of activities that helps youth pursue their interest in law enforcement, grow and develop.

The meetings are primarily held every Thursday and are usually from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The day, time and location are subject to change based on the activity that is planned for the meeting.

To become a Straford Police Explorer you must meet the following requirements: Town of Stratford CT. Resident, be between the ages of 14-20 years old, maintain a "C" average or above in academic classes, have no criminal record, and be able to attend Thursday meetings.

If you fulfill the requirements and are interested in the program there are some fees that have to be paid.

The yearly registration fee is $40 and this includes the Learning for Life registration and 1 Explorer T-Shirt. There is a $5 youth application fee for Northeast Regional Law Enforcement Educational Association (NERLEEA). However, nobody will be turned away for not being able to afford the fees and required uniforms.

We at the Stratford Police Department take pride in the Explorer program and in turn require each Explorer to wear a uniform so they can represent Stratford Police in a professional manner. They are required to purchase a Long Sleeve Dress Shirt $40.00, a Short Sleeve Dress Shirt $35.00 and a Hat $20.00. Uniform Dress Pants will also need to be purchased and we will advise you as to where they should be bought. These items except the pants will be ordered through the Explorer Program and a CHECK should be written out to the Stratford Police Explorers Post 55. The shirts have to be ordered and there will be a time delay in receiving them.

There are yearly dues. The due amount is $40.00. This money will be collected within the first six months of the year. This money is to go into the Explorers fund to help them with some of the operating costs. We are a self funded organization and will be working on fundraising ideas along with developing ideas to receive donations to help run the organization.
