Feel free to visit the farm and chat with Herb or Beverly about their wonderful Mammoth Asses!
Devoted to the breeding, integrity, and promotion of Mammoth Jackstock.
Located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, SAA was founded by Herb and Beverly Heroy in 1994. Over the years, the Heroys have had many equines (long and short eared), but Mammoth donkeys have held their heart.
At their humble farm, you will find an abundance of donkeys. All are Mammoth jackstock and they all show a sweet, docile, almost pet like personality. This personality comes from a hands on approach by Herb & Bev Heroy.
Herb & Bev have a devotion to these sweet animals that is evident in the way the animals are treated. Each animal is imprinted at birth (if born on the farm) and handled daily. All animals are brushed and rubbed at feeding times and are accustomed to everyday disturbances.
Located on the farm, is one breeding jack. He is a proven producer of good looking, straight legged, and true black donkeys. He has not been shown or hauled to any shows due to his "jack" status. "Festus", as Herb calls him, is six years old and very friendly. When you enter his pen, he will back right up to you for a rump scratching. Also located on the farm are several big jennets (15h+ range) that are part of the breeding program at SAA.
One jennet in particular, August, is 16h and was born on their farm when they were located in Florida. This jennet consistently throws BIG babies with physical features of the stud. Shortly after her birth, her mother passed. Because of this, August was bottle-fed and is especially friendly.
Also at SAA, is Hawleywoods Fiddler. Fiddler was purchased from Hawleywoods Mule Farm and was the first long-ear that Herb & Bev had ever owned. When purchased, he knew how to pull a chuck wagon and in fact, had been the World Champion along with his brother. He was 4 years old. Now, at 23 years old, Fiddler is retired from the show ring where he won numerous awards in Western Pleasure. He happily enjoys feeding times and relaxing in retirement.
Please feel free to call or visit SAA for more information regarding their donkeys and/or horses and mules, as most all are for sale to good, loving homes.
God Bless and may the Donk be with you.
