The Suffolk County News

Founded by Walter Burling in 1884, The Suffolk County News was originally named Sayville News. The first issue appeared September 12, 1885. In June of 1894 Francis Hoag bought the paper and held the position of editor for 54 years. In 1905 Hoag moved the paper to 23 Candee Avenue in Sayville.

In 1985, The Suffolk County News and its sister paper, Islip Bulletin, were sold to John T. Tuthill III and his wife Lorelei P. Tuthill, publishers of The Long Island Advance, based in Patchogue, NY. Today, John T. Tuthill III continues as publisher of all three papers, while his son, John "Terry" Tuthill IV, serves as Assistant Publisher. Liz Finnegan is the Editor of both The Suffolk County News and Islip Bulletin. Over the years Suffolk County News has expanded its reach and now covers Bayport, Blue Point, Bohemia, Oakdale, Sayville and West Sayville towns.

In 2011 The Suffolk County News office was moved to The Long Island Advance building in Patchogue. For a more complete history of The Suffolk County News please visit the newspaper's website.
