The Suffolk Sheriff's Office is responsible for the security of the Mills E. Godwin Courthouse and the service of civil process in the City of Suffolk.

The Suffolk Sheriff's Office is responsible for the security of the Mills E. Godwin Courthouse and the service of civil process in the City of Suffolk. The courthouse is visited by approximately 1,000 citizens, staff and court personal daily. The office provides security at our points of entry and exit as well as the perimeter of the building and surrounding areas. The Sheriff's Office assigns bailiffs to the Circuit, General District and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts each day with over 1,100 courts in session yearly. The Civil Enforcement section serves all court documents, such as subpoenas, levies and warrants serving over 100,000 papers annually. The Sheriff’s Office also staffs a highly secure area of the courthouse where over 3,300 inmates visit each year. The Sheriff’s Office transports all Juveniles who are being detained, to and from court, adult inmates for all civil matters and assists the Suffolk Police Department with the transport of those served with a temporary detention order.
