In 1948 thirteen souls met at the home of Thurman and Clella Wright. Later that year this group of Christians began to worship in the Decatur YWCA and became known as the Central Church of Christ. In 1949 the now larger group moved services to the Farm Bureau Building (currently the Ameren downtown office building). In 1950 a building was purchased on E. North Street (it is still standing and located behind Burger King on Eldorado and Illinois) the name of the congregation was changed to East North Street Church of Christ in 1951. In 1959 land was purchased at our current location on Sunnyside Rd. 1961 a new building is constructed (the E. North St. building is sold to the Greenwood Avenue Church which will eventually move north a few blocks and become Jasper Street Church of Christ). Over the years the building was added on to and the grounds changed in appearance. More important than the physical growth was the spiritual growth of the congregation which increased in number and stature.

God has continued to bless the family of what became and is now Sunnyside Road Church of Christ. We welcome and encourage you to join us as we strive to serve God and continue to meet to worship and fellowship at Sunnyside Rd.
