Swanton Public Library is dedicated to serving the needs of its community. Stop by and see us, we'd love to see you!

Mission Statement: The Swanton Public Library exists to make readily available resources and programs to meet the information, recreational, and educational needs of the service population consisting of all eligible adults, children and young adults.

History: In the midst of the Great Depression, the Swanton Board of Education passed a resolution to establish a public library at the request of a number of local residents. In 1935, a budget of $1,500 was established. At that time, the library was housed in the Cherry Street School. In 1973, due to repeated requests from the adult public, a branch library was opened at 95 North Main Street during the summer months. Around this time, the Board of Trustees began making plans to build a structure to house the Library. That goal was realized when in 1978 voters of the district approved the construction of the library's current building at 305 Chestnut Street, property that was donated by the Village of Swanton for that purpose. The building was completed and dedicated on November 18, 1979 and remains to this day to serve the needs of its community.

Swanton Public Library is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and on Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. SPL is closed on Sundays from May thru September.
