A local, community-based business serving the Mercer County, NJ area with naturally grown fruits and vegetables.
Our Story
Mace, one of our founders and the true visionary behind our company, wanted to find a way to feed his two turtles and keep their tank clean. As he researched a solution, he stumbled upon a new form of hydroponics, called aquaponics. Aquaponics is a self-contained system used to process waste produced by farmed fish (or other aquatic animals) and use that waste to supply nutrients for plants grown hydroponically, which in turn purify the water for the fish.
As his interest grew, he realized he could use aquaponics to develop a way to naturally grow food, without the use of chemicals or added products. Using fish and non-GMO seeds, he is able to produce food using a self-sustaining system.
In 2012, Mace and Marlene setup a small rack in their basement, and using goldfish, a plastic container as a planting bed, and a small grow light, decided to see if they could grow wildflowers from an old container of seeds they had on the shelf. To their surprise, it worked!
In 2013, they built a large rack system in their basement to try and grow basic edible plants, such as tomatoes, lettuce, strawberries, and herbs. Through some trial and error, they discovered that they could grow food using aquaponics.
Latest News…
Over the last 24 months, Mace and Marlene have built a 432 square foot greenhouse to begin formal production. There have been numerous challenges along the way but they are both looking forward to opening for business full-time in the Summer of 2015.
We’ll post more information here about our grand opening. Hope to see you soon!
