Syracuse Fire Department
Syracuse Fire Department was founded in 1877 and now protects a 25-square-mile population of 145,000 that grows significantly during daytime hours. This department provides fire protection for four major hospitals, many downtown office buildings, Hancock International Airport, Interstates 81 and 690, as well as Syracuse University and the Carrier Dome
Currently 389 firefighters staff the department and answer over 23,000 alarms a year of which 100 are major fires
The Syracuse Fire Department holds an ISO class 1 rating, the only department in New York State to do so. There are approximately 30 departments nationwide that have a Class 1 rating
The Syracuse Fire Department strives to preserve life and property, promote public safety and foster economic growth through leadership and actions, as an all risk life safety provider
