The Stateline Yurt - (208) 756-3959

The Stateline Yurt is owned and operated by Wilderness River Outfitters under a special use permit on the Salmon-Challis National Forest.

We are excited to offer backcountry lodging in the Bitterroot Mountain Range behind Lost Trail Ski Area at the Stateline Yurt. The yurt is located on the Salmon-Challis National Forest at an elevation of 7200 ft. Lodging at the yurt allows access to the great skiing in the Lost Trail backcountry. The ski terrain varies from low angle tree skiing to more aggressive big mountain options. This facility is available for rent by people experienced in backcountry travel, backcountry skiing or snowboarding.

The Stateline Yurt is a 20-foot diameter Mongolian style yurt. The yurt is outfitted with four beds, kitchen cooking table, 4-burner propane stove, all the eating and cooking utensils needed for your stay, a Weber Grill, dinner table with 4 chairs and several other seating options as well. A small wood stove heats the yurt, and firewood is supplied. The wood rack will be stocked when you arrive and please leave it that way when you leave. There is a pit toilet facility on site and on a clear day the views are unbeatable! There are several sleeping pads at the yurt, but bringing your own lightweight pad is not a bad idea. We do not provide sleeping bags.

You will need to bring all your own food and beverages to the yurt. Metal buckets are provided for melting snow into water. There are spices and oil, but anything you may want special please bring it in with you. You will need to bring a headlamp as well and you probably want extra batteries. After cooking at the yurt, please clean up after yourself and do not leave food out, as it will attract mice. When you are leaving the yurt please take everything you brought in back out with you. Do not leave trash at the yurt.

The yurt is available for experienced backcountry users, as these are not a guided trip. You are responsible for your own safety in the backcountry. When skiing in the backcountry everyone should have basic avalanche gear and know how to use it: transceiver, shovel, probe and backpack. Read local avalanche forecast, do your own stability test and make smart choices. The winter backcountry can be extremely dangerous and you need to have the necessary skills to travel safely in these areas. All members of the party will be required to sign the yurt rental agreement and assumption of risk form prior to renting or using the facility.

When you make a reservation to the yurt. We will email you all the necessary forms required before renting the yurt. We will arrange a meeting time at Lost Trail Ski Area to collect paperwork and give you the key to the yurt. You will be given a map and directions to the site, including GPS coordinates. Overnight parking at Lost Trail needs to be done in specific yurt parking area to not inconvenience or interrupt the ski area operations. When you return from the yurt, leave the key in drop box at parking area.
