UC Merced is the newest campus in the venerable University of California system and the first American research university built in the 21st century.
As of fall 2012, UC Merced has about 5,700 undergraduate and graduate students. These students are some of the brightest in the state, and possess an entrepreneurial spirit and thirst for knowledge. Since 2005, our students have formed more than 150 clubs and organizations, written their own constitution and have created a thriving governing body. In addition, our graduate and undergraduate students are conducting some of the most cutting-edge research of our time, such as stem cells, artificial intelligence and renewable energy.
