Home of the Nompuewenu Astronomical Observatory,and the first Arecibo Remote Command Center! We focus on Gravitational Wave research.
The department has a strong, well-funded research program and enjoys close research collaborations among scientists in other departments with related research interests. To facilitate such cooperation and collaboration, an interdisciplinary research center - Center for Gravitational Wave Astronomy (CGWA) - has been formed in 2003 that has been supported by NSF and NASA grants over $30M. The department proudly houses the Arecibo Remote Command Center (ARCC).
