UW-Platteville TREES Laboratory - Dr. Rawling: 608.342.1680; Dr. Larson: 608.342.6139

Tree-Ring, Earth & Environmental Sciences (TREES) Lab is a physical geography teaching & research laboratory focusing on reconstructing past environments to better understand current & future environmental change.

The TREES Lab is housed in the UW-Platteville College of Liberal Arts and Education and is staffed primarily by faculty from the Geography and Geology Program of the Department of Social Sciences. We are a National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduate (REU) site and conduct research across the state of Wisconsin, the Great Lakes Region, the United States, Canada, and Sweden. If you are interested in gaining research experience through an independent project or by working as a research assistant on one of our projects, please contact Dr. Evan Larson or Dr. J. Elmo Rawling III.

The Tree-Ring, Earth, and Environmental Sciences Laboratory (TREES Lab) was established to create a place where teaching and research are integrated to provide UW-Platteville students opportunities to gain meaningful experience in research and inspire rigorous academic activity. The TREES Lab is founded on the mindful, dedicated efforts of faculty, staff, and students in pursuit of academic excellence and reflects a deep commitment to undergraduate education, undergraduate research, UW-Platteville, and the surrounding community. The TREES Lab was made possible by considerable support from the Office of the Provost and the College of Liberal Arts and Education.

The TREES Lab is staffed by four full-time faculty, a laboratory technician, and a number of undergraduate research assistants. Our facilities are equipped for tree-ring, sediment, and charcoal analysis research. Lab activities include teaching, research, and outreach through classroom instruction, hands-on research experiences, and presentations.
