A comprehensive music program with 150 students majoring in music, 50 music minors, and more than 30 full-and part-time faculty.
UW-Whitewater is large enough to offer all of the benefits of a comprehensive university, yet small enough that music students receive individualized attention from expert faculty.
The musical life of the department is vibrant, producing more than 100 musical programs each year, including student recitals, concerts by our various ensembles, and an annual opera or Broadway-style production. The annual Holiday Gala has become a beloved Whitewater tradition and a varied showcase for all of our performing groups. Our large ensembles tour the region each year, with periodic national and international tours, and have performed at Carnegie Hall and professional conferences across the nation.
The department also sponsors three unique concert series. Our Faculty & Guest Artist Series combines solo and chamber recitals by our faculty and a diverse group of visiting artists from around the globe. Our Music Mosaics is a chamber music series that includes themed concerts by our faculty ensembles and soloists. The Bramblett Chamber Music Series, presented in cooperation with the Irvin L. Young Auditorium, features nationally- and internationally-known soloists and chamber ensembles in a beautiful performance space.
Our superb faculty, devoted to teaching, research, and creative activity, includes distinguished performers, composers, and scholars whose work is known across the nation. The College of Arts and Communication is also home to the Young Auditorium, which offers an outstanding venue for performances of all types from across the nation and around the world.
