The VAC produces backcountry avalanche bulletins for Valdez, Thompson Pass and the surrounding area. VAC provides local avalanche awareness presentations.
VAC is one of five Alaska Avalanche Information Centers that are volunteer run. The forecasts and educational opportunities are community supported. The majority of VAC's funding comes from companies and individuals who believe avalanche information is important and can save lives. The City of Valdez began fiscal support in 2013 in the sum of $5000. To run a sustainable avalanche forecasting program, the VAC needs to raise a minimum of $30,000/year.
