Community food garden & learning space in Vallejo, CA

We are based in Mare Island and are committed to bringing more inexpensive, sustainable, locally-produced food systems and nutrition programming to Vallejo in order to create healthier communities and allow ourselves to live fuller longer lives.

We are located behind the Global Center for Success, another great community resource.

We have worked with: Touro University, California Maritime Academy, Renaissance Women's Shelter, Christian Help Center, St. Vinnie's Community Garden, Vallejo Gardens, Vallejo Farmer's Market, Girl Scouts, and are trying to establish more community gardening programs across Vallejo especially in our schools.

We are a volunteer-run community garden committed to growing delicious fruits, vegetables, herbs, and native Californian plants using principles of sustainability and community empowerment. Our gardeners come from diverse backgrounds and cultures, and at present we offer our skills, knowledge, and produce entirely for free.

We work with the most underserved (homeless shelters, women's shelters, job-seekers, life skills-learners, youth) in order to literally and figuratively build strong roots and connections for generations to come. This is of utmost importance in the city of Vallejo, a city still recovering from the effects of bankruptcy and the reduction of social-, wellness-, and educational services--a city that, even in its middle class areas, lacks grocery stores.

In addition, our communities are being afflicted with largely preventable diseases like diabetes and heart disease at alarming rates. Some of us do not have medical care and haven't had access to REAL nutrition information and food.

We are here to learn and educate others about different kinds of plants (vegetables, fruits, herbs, trees) for nutritional, medicinal benefits and the many ways in which we can nourish ourselves and live dignified lives in the face of systems that increasingly don't serve us. We encourage people to read up on our own family traditions and ancestry, celebrating multicultural and intergenerational food/health/wellness practices.

JOIN US IN OUR MISSION! Email us at info@vallejopeoplesgarden.org and join our collective group of volunteers with whatever skills you have :) The more, the merrier, the healthier and wiser.

We are hoping to expand our volunteer hours and workdays as we continue to grow! Help us by signing up to volunteer and receive new info, or JUST SHOW UP AT THE GARDEN! We'll even send you home with some of your own produce to try out.
