ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

Van Buren Township Public Safety Department is made up of the Police Department, Fire Department, Animal Control Officer, and the Communication Division.

The Police Department currently has 1 Director of Public Safety, 26 Full Time Officers, 5 Lt's. and 6 Sgt's. There is also 1 Reserve Officer. The department handles over 35,000 Calls For Service per year. The police station is located at 46425 Tyler Rd. Belleville MI 48111 and is open 24/7.

The Fire Department currently has 50 paid on-call Firefighters and the Fire Chief Dan Besson. There are two Fire Stations that are manned 24/7 by a Duty Crew. The department handles over 2500 Calls For Service per year. The Fire Stations are located at 7981 Belleville Rd. Belleville MI 48111 (Fire Station #2) and 45400 Hull Rd. Belleville MI 48111 (Fire Station #1).

The Animal Control Officer is available on a part time basis and is responsible for ensuring animal safety and compliance with Township laws and regulations.

The Communication Division is made up of 9 full time and 1 part time dispatchers that are the communication hub for the entire Public Safety Department as well as dispatchers for the City of Belleville. The department handles over 8000 911 calls, and in excess of 50000 informational calls per year.
