Vance Birthplace State Historic Site - (828) 645-6706

Welcome to the official Facebook page for Vance Birthplace Historic Site, preserving and interpreting the life of the Civil War Governor and his family.

This pioneer farmstead, tucked in the Reems Creek Valley, features the birthplace of Zebulon Baird Vance. The five-room log house--reconstructed around original chimneys--and its outbuildings are furnished to evoke the period from 1795- 1840. Vance's political career as Civil War officer, North Carolina governor, and U.S. senator is traced at the homestead. Also included is the history of Vance's famous mountain family.

Vance Birthplace is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. There is no admission fee. Donations are accepted.

Tours, Programs, & Events

Free guided tours are offered throughout the day. Reservations are requested for schools and other group tours. Curriculum-based tours and programs are offered on site and at nearby schools.

Annual events include Spring and Fall Pioneer Living History Days held in April and September and a Christmas open house. Demonstrations and hands-on activities are available to scheduled school groups.
