Oregon LNG is a proposed project to transport fracked gas from Canada to Asia using a high pressure pipeline that will cross Vernonias only source of water
The Oregon LNG project proposes to transport fracked gas from Canada to Asia using a high pressure pipeline. This is a project that has been in the works for over a decade and has been turned down by city after city, county after county. Now The city of Vernonia faces this disastrous project. The pipeline is to cut through much of Oregon's forest and watershed's leaving a 100ft clearance on both sides. It is to be dug under Rock Creek, Vernonia's water supply. This proposed project brings no economic benefit to Vernonia but will bring decades of trouble for us and future citizens if allowed. LNG has a history of unsafe practices and explosions. Vernonia is not equipped to handle an emergency incase of explosion. If the water were to be contaminated from a disaster it will take decades to repair. This area is known for its unstable mudslides and being prone to earthquakes. When Oregon is considered a leader in renewable energy this project perpetuates our dependence on fossil fuels. Join us in helping to Protect and preserve the great city of Vernonia.
