Wakefield Brook Boarding & Grooming - (218) 768-2833

Clean and relaxing. A country stay for your dog. Your pet will get multiple supervised outings in large secure area, one-on-one time and socialization.

We are running a short term and long term overnight boarding facility. We are not a breeding facility nor a training facility. The sole purpose of our business is to care for dogs while owners are away.

At this time, at maximum capacity, we can house up to ten to fifteen dogs at one time per night. We have started a compost pile for dog wastes that we plan to spread on our farm pasture after composition.

At current time we are cleaning all kennels by hand with household chemicals and disposing of water in our home on site.

Our concern for noise and barking is minimal as we don't have neighbors close enough to be effected. Our property bumps up to our family dairy farm pasture and noise will not be an issue with our family. Insulation and landscape however, will minimalize noise.

All dogs will be housed indoors at night to protect them from the elements and nature. They are in secure kennels with 6ft. steel walls with 6" insulation between panels for noise reduction and chain link gate with lock. Personal indoor space measures 24 sq. ft.. In warm months, dogs have an additional 24 sq. ft. of private outdoor space accessible via doggie door. We provide raised dog beds or mats for lounging, or clients can supply items from home. We have ventilation fans to keep the circulated air clean and fresh throughout our 850 sq. ft. building.

Dogs will get a minimum of four outings per day at fifteen minutes each to ensure they are getting enough activity. We have three large fenced in yards for secure free time. Fence is 6ft. high chain link. We can allow three dogs out at one time in separate secure yards estimated at 10,000 sq. ft. per yard. At this point in time we are not allowing our guests to socialize with any other dog other than its housemate. The kennel is set up for indoor play when there are extreme temperatures, dogs can be indoors with heat or air conditioning depending on the season.

Dogs will be supplied food from their home so that their normal diet is not disrupted. It is better for the dog to stay on his or her feeding schedule and diet. If food is not provided by owner, the dog will be fed Purina Dog Chow. Water will be distributed all day. They will always have access to fresh water from the garden hose attached to our well. Currently we are using less than 10 gallons per day.

From research done prior to opening there are no regulations or licenses required for running a boarding facility in Minnesota at this time. Our own standard is that all dogs be up to date on shots including, rabies, distemper, kennel cough and also have recent flea/tick control treatment. This is for the safety of the dog and surrounding guests.

Our daily schedule begins at 7:00 a.m.. We unlock the kennel and begin free time for guests letting them out in the secure fenced in area outdoors. While dogs are outdoors, we clean water dishes and refill them, fill food dishes and sweep up kennel run area. Hallways are swept at this time too. Dogs are let back in one at a time and led to kennels to eat. Each dog then gets one on one time playtime. Dogs then receive quiet time until lunch when they are allowed outside again for more playtime. Water dishes are cleaned and replenished. Depending on the weather they may get extended playtime, but a minimal fifteen minutes is standard at our kennel. Dogs get time to explore, fetch, lay in the sun or whatever the dog is interested in doing.

After midday playtime, feces are collected and brought to the compost pile. We clean up wastes daily to ensure clean play areas and restrict illness from spreading.

After checkouts, kennels are cleaned from top to bottom with anti-bacterial household cleaners and bedding and chew toys are washed in our home.

Dogs are given more exercise time again late afternoon and late evening after their dinner meal, fresh water is given. Facility is mopped and office is vacuumed. Lights out time is 8:00 p.m.. and the facility is locked up for the night. Outdoor yard fence is padlocked, and each entrance is locked as well. We live on site.
