Wake Forest Campus Garden

The WFU Campus Garden is a great place to relax, spend time outside, and learn about the benefits of sustainable agriculture.

The WFU Campus Garden has a partnership with the Campus Kitchen at Wake Forest to grow 100% organic produce that can be used to prepare meals or to be delivered fresh to social service organizations in the local community. This effort focuses on fighting food insecurity in Winston-Salem, which in 2010 was named the third-hungriest metropolitan area in the United States.

The “Mapping the Meal Gap” project conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau determined that 25% of Winston-Salem’s population (60,000 people) has suffered from food insecurity at some point in the past twelve months (U.S. Census Bureau 2010). These statistics signify the grave situation of hunger and food injustice in Winston-Salem.

The work happening in the Campus Garden and with Campus Kitchen is more important than ever! Members from the community, students, faculty, staff, and neighborhood residents are welcome to come to the garden to learn about sustainable agriculture methods and lend a helping hand during the weekly volunteer hours.

Volunteer hours for the summer of 2014:

Sunday afternoon: 4:00-6:00
Monday morning: 8:30-10:30
Thursday afternoon: 4:30-6:30
