Wellesley College Science Center

Preparing Wellesley students for leadership in the sciences.

Why you should explore the
quirkiest building on campus:

The Leaky Beaker:
The newest eatery on campus opened in February 2011,
offering Peets Coffee, snacks, and grab-n-go meals for students
on the run. The place is open evenings to help you get over
the late-night munchies. Come hang with your new friends.
And, we’ve got some cool interactive science “toys” for you to
explore – test your brain, make rivers, and more…

The Greenhouses:
This place is far more than a free plant at the start of your
Wellesley career. Not only a great place to take a break from
the stress, there’s new things blooming year round. Escape the
cold with a visit to the tropical room or the desert house.
Don’t miss Smoothie Night or the Greenhouse Light Show.

Student Research Posters:
When you’re feeling just a tad overwhelmed in your intro
courses, check out the research results displayed around the
building. Students completing these posters started out just
like you, and look how far they’ve come! This can be you in
just a few years…and many are presented at conferences!

Dead Stuffed Things:
We said it was a quirky building
Where else but the Science Center can you find birds on
pedestals, penguins, koalas, and more… The Science Center
boasts one of the largest taxidermy collections in the area.
Look, but don’t touch. Who’s your favorite?

The Observatory:
Check out the recently renovated Observatory. Stop by one of
the campus public nights to look through our telescopes and
see planets, stars, and galaxies. One of the telescopes is over
100 years old! You’ll be surprised at how clear the view is…
