West Columbia Fire Department.
The City of West Columbia Fire Department is a career, urban fire department that is ready to respond to emergency calls 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. The WCFD provides fire protection to the City’s 18,000 citizen in it’s 6.3 sq mile and the WCFD also has automatic /mutual aid agreements with each of it’s surrounding municipal fire departments (Columbia Fire Department, Cayce Public Safety, and Lexington County Fire Service). In addition to fire suppression, the WCFD also provides a variety of operation-technician level rescue service, EMR medical care, along with swift water rescue response to the Lower Saluda and Congaree Rivers which run between downtown Columbia and the City of West Columbia.
At any hour of the day, West Columbia firefighters can be seen outside any of it’s fire station cleaning and maintaining the City’s investment in emergency apparatus, conducting training exercises, assisting citizens and/or visitors, performing preplans, conducting public fire education classes, or a number of other activities that enhance the public safety.
