A community of volunteers who focus on green and sustainability issues. Activities include community beautification, water conservation, community gardens
Started in November 2013, the West Hills Community Pride Day is a year round activity coordinated by a member of the West Hills Neighborhood Council. This community wide effort encourages neighbors to help neighbors to help keep adopted public spaces clean on a regular basis. Every third Saturday of the month, volunteers get together for 2-3 hours in the morning to sweep sidewalks, pull weeds and do light tree trimming, to keep adopted and targeted areas clean.
As of December 2014, the original grass roots effort has evolved into the formation of the West Hills Community Green Committee, to expand its scope of activities based on the success achieved during community beautification activities. Expanded activities will include water conservation landscaping solutions, alternative sources of energy, community gardens, advocacy for green and sustainability issues and activities.
The West Hills Community Pride Day beautification activities will continue as part of the year round program of this newly formed committee.
