Bringing the Best in the World of Entertainment to the Community
There is nothing quite as uplifting and transformative as a wonderful performance. Music… theater… comedy… dance… Westminster College Celebrity Series is committed to bringing the best in the performing arts to the Lawrence-Mercer region of Western Pennsylvania.
The Westminster Celebrity Series started in 1967 as part of an Artist-Lecture series. The program evolved over the years to feature more popular and nationally-known performers from a diverse array of genres.
In 2003—in recognition of the important cultural and economic role that the Celebrity Series plays in the region—the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania authorized a $1.7 million grant for the renovation of Orr Auditorium as the Western Pennsylvania Cultural Arts Center.
In keeping with this mission, the Celebrity Series makes a special effort to reach under-served populations. Nationally-recognized children’s theater programs, for example, include a low-cost and immensely popular “school show.” A special program also serves elderly residents of area nursing homes—treating them to an outing that includes “dinner and a show.” These programs are made possible through the generosity of area foundations, businesses, and individuals.
The goal of the Celebrity Series is truly to offer” something for everyone.”
