Although Westport enjoys a reputation as an arts community, the town is missing a center of entertainment - a movie theater. We hope to build a theater that crosses generations, entertains and educates, and initiates political and social dialogue. Our schedule will include first run movies, independent films, documentaries, children programming and we intend to include films made by our local Filmmakers.

We will be able to showcase the Westport Youth Film Festival, a program of the Westport Arts Center, an annual film festival for high school students from all around the world.

This initiative is building a legacy for the future.

The Westport Cinema Initiative board of directors represent the diverse complexion of the town of Westport, including government, arts and education institutions, the business community, senior citizens, and teens. Now a registered 501(C)3 non-profit, we began operations in 2011 providing excellent and diverse programming in venues around town. We are seeking donations and sponsorship from individuals, corporations and foundations in order to provide regularly scheduled screenings as we move to building a permanent location.
