West Sacramento has its first urban farm in the Broderick neighborhood of West Sacramento. 5th & C Farm is on what was once a vacant city lot.
The West Sacramento Urban Farm is a 2/3 acre farm growing over 50 varieties of vegetables, melons, flowers and herbs. Most of what is grown are old world varieties that are almost never sold in stores. Crops are planted for their flavor, picked when the produce is vine ripened and delivered on the day of harvest.
Diversity, companion planting, crop rotation, lunar cycle planting, compost, and working with nature are the central values held by 5th & C St Farms. All goods are grown completely naturally using 100% organic compost made both on the farm and gathered locally. The farm never uses any chemical fertilizers, insecticides or sprays of ANY kind. Sustainability, selling local and providing folks with nutrient dense delicious foods is what drives this farm.
Currently, the produce is available to the public on the following days and locations:
▪ Edible Pedal farm stand on the 17th Street alley, between L and M Streets in Sacramento,
▪ Wednesdays from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
▪ West Sacramento Farmers Market, Thursdays from 4 - 8 p.m.
▪ 5th and C Farm Stand in West Sacramento, Fridays from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. (or until sold out)
▪ Nugget Markets in West Sacramento and Davis-Covell Store
