Wharton Construction is a Class A contracting company which is licensed in building, electrical, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and gas pipe fitting.
Wharton Construction was founded in 1971 by Bill Wharton, who is well-known for his ability to consistently provide a quality product on time.
Bill honed his skills as a young man while achieving an electrical apprenticeship at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. Over the next few years he continued to build his expertise while working for several electrical contractors in Hampton Roads, Virginia.
As with most professionals, Bill felt he could do it better and started an electrical company by obtaining his master license to serve customers in Hampton, Newport News, Yorktown, Smithfield, Williamsburg, Poquoson, Gloucester, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, and Portsmouth.
Bill's knack at running a top-notch, customer-oriented electrical company inspired him to obtain his master license in plumbing, HVAC and gas pipefitting, and grew the business to provide quality service in all of his trades.
He soon saw the need to expand the company in home building, remodeling, renovations, room additions and commercial construction.
Four decades later, Bill is one of the most knowledgeable business owners in the residential and commercial construction business. His reputation includes "Problem Solver," which is a great skill to have due to the inherent problems associated with the many moving parts of a construction project. Since 1971, Bill has been on his toes, thinking ahead of the game, and keeping customers satisfied.
Becoming a family business:
Bill and his wife, Pauline, raised two sons, Ty and Aaron, and both boys grew up in the construction business.
Ty swung his first hammer at age six. As he matured he worked summers and weekends helping his dad do roofing, remodeling, additions, kitchen renovations, bath renovations, and room additions. After high school he began working for several construction companies which served Hampton, Newport News, Yorktown, Williamsburg, Poquoson and Gloucester. He continually expanded his professional scope by becoming an expert in carpentry, framing, electrical and plumbing, while specializing in renovations, remodeling and additions.
Ty was drawn to the electrician side of the business and eventually completed an apprentice program at Newport News Shipyard, and later obtained his master license in electrical.
In 1995, Ty joined his dad's business and is now the president of Wharton Construction Co., Inc.
Aaron also started his career in construction at a very young age. He worked with his father in the business during his adolescence and teen years. After graduating from high school, Aaron worked for Wharton Construction and other remodeling companies that served Suffolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, and Portsmouth. Aaron gained great knowledge in the construction business while specializing in carpentry, and in time joined his dad's company. He is now a vice president and estimator.
Pauline is the company's secretary and treasurer and has been with the residential and commercial company since day one. She worked along side her husband in the business office as well as at jobsites. During her tenure with the business, Pauline obtained her license as a realtor, which has been an excellent benefit for the company.
