White Oak offers a stunning 9 hole golf course open to the public as well as membership packages that include Swimming Pool and other club amenities.
White Oak Country Club was established in 1921 by New River Coal Company for the enjoyment of the upper level supervisory employees and their families. Shortly after Club Memberships became available on a limited basis to select members of the community. White Oak boasted the first "Penncross" bentgrass putting green in West Virginia. Numerous former pro golfers, including Slammin' Sammy Snead and Billy Capps played the White Oak Golf Course several times. Billy Capps, whose personal claim to fame was his victory over Sammy Snead on the pro golf circuit, said that White Oak Country Club was one of the most beautiful but challenging courses that he played during his over sixty years of playing golf. According to the West Virginia Golf Association: Ed Tutwiler became the second amateur to capture the West Virginia Open by staging a final day charge at White Oak Country Club in Oak Hill for a six-stroke victory. Tutwiler began the last day two strokes behind pro Ray Vaughan, Jr., but took command on his home course with a four-under-par 66 in the morning and finished up with a 68 for a 276 total.
In the mid 1990's White Oak opened the course to the General Public. The swimming pool and other club facilites remain available to members and select family and friends. The upstairs banquet room boasts a beautiful view of the course and offers a perfect setting for events, celebrations and weddings.
