The Institute for Energy for Environmental Research at Wilkes University was established in 2010 with an initial project to study water quality and to provide an information clearinghouse website for the Marcellus Shale gas play in northeast Pennsylvania.
The institute's initial funding is a contract from the United States Department of Energy. Partners include Wilkes University, which is housing the IEER, King's College, and the Institute for Public Policy and Economic Development.
