Willand Pond

Family Recreation Area

Willand Pond, a spring-fed "kettle pond", is a 66-acre water body that shares its borders in Dover and Somersworth. Because this is city-owned (Dover and Somersworth) property designated as a public park, there is no hunting allowed at Willand Pond, nor are ATVs, snowmobiles, or dirt-bikes allowed on the trails or ice.

Willand Pond has served as a public recreational destination since the late 1800s. It was used as a public water supply up until the mid 1950's when a groundwater supply well was installed on the northwest shore near the current boat launch and Dover trail entrance. As of 2012, the City of Dover will once again be using this well as one of the city's backup water sources.

The pond reaches around 40 feet at its deepest point. Historically, it has been called Cochecho Pond, The Great Pond, Humphrey's Pond, Hussey's Pond, and Lake Willand.
