This is the Winter Park Freeride team with the Competition Center.
The Winter Park Freeski Team has produced top level athletes including 2014 Olympian Lyman Currier and the up and coming youngster Birk Irving.
The Freeski Team - Park+Pipe is the program for the athletic skier looking to improve their skills in park and pipe. The Freeski Park + Pipe programs are offered as a 1-day, 2-day, 3-day and Full-Time program. Great park skiers must have exceptional skiing skills, focusing on progression, safety, and fun. The Freeski team will train Rerailer, Railyard and Dark Territory, but will spend majority of their training time in the larger park, Dark Territory. These are the parks where athletes will focus on sliding boxes and rails and furthering their air awareness skills in half-pipe and slopestyle.
This program is a great place to learn and polish up on their skills needed for park and pipe. It also offers you the opportunity to do a wide variety of competitions (Slopestyle/Halfpipe). It is required that you be on the 2-day program or full time program to be on the competitive traveling team. The competitive team will work on goal setting, sports psychology, strength and flexibility.
The majority of the competitions are USASA around the state. Some athletes will also attend some other competitions like the Revolution Tour, Aspen Open, and the North Face park+pip open events. These events are AFP events (Association of Freesking Profesionals). Athletes will need to purchase a USASA license http://www.usasa.org, and register for AFP recognition at http://afpworldtour.com for all other non USASA events. These are the events needed for the aspiring athlete who has dreams of the Dew Tour, X Games , or Olympics.
