Woodside Vaulters Equestrian Vaulting Club, Woodside, California, USA
Vaulting combines elements of gymnastics and dance performed to music on a moving horse. Vaulting involves teamwork between the vaulter, horse, and longeur who controls the horse in a circle using a longe line. Vaulters perform compulsory moves and freestyle routines in squad, pas-de-deux (pair) and individual events. In the squad freestyle event, up to three vaulters on a six-person team are on the horse at any one time. In competition, the athletes are judged on technique, form, performance, level of difficulty, and harmony with the horse. The horse also is scored based on stride, balance, consistency, and other factors.
