The Worcester Junior Sharks program is structured to allow each player to develop and test their skills at three distinct levels of competition (House, Travel and AAA Elite). This ensures that each player has an opportunity to play and compete at an appropriate level with an opportunity to grow within the organization.
Player Development Program
•Coaches – The coaching staff of each team is hand selected by the board of directors not only based on hockey knowledge but the ability to communicate with the players, parents, referees and league officials. Our coaches are the backbone of the organization and have played at all levels of competition: High School, College, Juniors and Professional.
•Lean to Skate / Learn to Play Hockey – This is the foundation of the program which allows children the opportunity to learn how to skate and play the great game of hockey.
•Team Practices – Practices are used to reinforce the basic skills sessions and to coordinate the systems used for team play.
•Skills Sessions (on and off ice) – Offered throughout the season, these skills sessions are develop to compliment team practices and continue the players development. These sessions will be more focused on Power Skating, Puck Handling and Shooting Skills as well as overall conditioning.
•Goalie Clinics – Offered throughout the season, these clinics are specific to the goaltender position.
•Competitive Leagues – House League compete’s in the Paul Drapeau Youth Hockey League and plays out of the Auburn Rink and Travel leagues compete in the Northstar Youth Hockey league. The AAA (Elite) teams play in the New England Hockey League (NEHL) considered one of the most competitive AAA (Elite) leagues in North America.
•Spring and Summer Hockey – This is an optional opportunity in a low key environment for players to develop through the spring and summer months.
•Pre Season Training Camps – This is an optional week long training camp prior to the season.
The Worcester Junior Sharks are a non –profit 501c3 youth hockey organization dedicated to the development of players on and off the ice. The organization has over 550 players and 92 USA Hockey certified coaches.
