Wozupi Tribal Gardens - (952) 496-2267

Open to the public. Volunteers are always welcome!

Wozupi Tribal Gardens is a community supported organic garden, honey bee apiary, and sugar bush. Owned by the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC), Wozupi is a demonstration of how the SMSC cares for the environment, the earth, and future generations.

The first seeds were planted on April 23, 2010, and since then Wozupi has continued to grow. Wozupi supports 5.5 acres of certified organic produce, 3.5 acres of orchards, 120 bee hives, and a sugar bush with over 700 taps. All of our produce is certified organic. Rather than stripping the land of its nutrients, organic gardening maintains and builds the natural fertility of the soil through cover cropping, composting, and crop rotations. We rely on crop diversity to help mitigate the many risks in a growing season. These risks include pest damage and inclement weather. We grow a wide variety of produce, including native fruit trees and shrubs and heirloom Indian corn, beans, and squash.

Education is an integral part of Wozupi’s work. Wozupi works with community youth programs and hosts 2 youth gardens on our grounds. We offer seasonal classes which include the “how to’s” of organic gardening, composting, and food preservation.
