The state of Wyoming's economic development agency. Provides business tools to entrepreneurs and community development resources to Wyoming communities.
For most, the word “government” usually doesn’t pair well with phrases like “customer service” or “successful public private partnerships.” But the Wyoming Business Council isn’t a typical government entity. It was created to operate differently; to move at the speed of business.
Designed with a more corporate structure, the Business Council utilizes private business practices to drive its programs. With staff located in regional offices throughout the state, the Business Council knows Wyoming’s communities, large and small, and is better able to deliver higher levels of service to its clients. Regional offices are located in Casper, Kemmerer, Laramie, Powell, Riverton, Rock Springs, and Sheridan.
The state created the Wyoming Business Council to focus on public and private efforts to build a strong job creation base with manufacturing and technology as core competencies; all while strengthening the existing business and industry groups under alternative energy, agriculture, manufacturing, high tech, transportation and logistics.
The Business Council’s key programs focus on helping communities develop and thrive, recruiting new businesses to the state, helping established business and agricultural operations improve, and working with residents and businesses to become more energy efficient. The Business Council’s varying divisions spearhead specific programs to achieve those goals. The divisions include: Agribusiness, Business and Industry, Investment Ready Communities, the State Energy Office, and Wyoming Main Street and the Wyoming Rural Development Council.
The Business Council could not do it alone, however. Partnerships through the Business Resource Network increase the assistance and outreach to Wyoming businesses both new and established. The network includes, among others, the Wyoming Small Business Development Centers, Wyoming SBIR/STTR initiative, Wyoming Research Products Center, Wyoming Procurement Technical Assistance Center, Manufacturing-Works, and Wyoming Women’s Business Center.
