The idea of the Maker Exchange was birthed out of the Nass family's trip to India to visit friends who started JOYN, a fair trade company that creates handbags and accessories. They came back with a vision to bring JOYN to the Yakima market. When they returned they found that their friends at the Yakima Maker Space had a vision for a store that would sell locally made goods. Visions were combined to become a shop for fair trade and locally made.
